About Schengen Visa

A Schengen Visa is a short stay visa that allows eligible travelers to visit up to 29 European countries with a single visa for tourism, business, family visits, medical treatment, or short-term training. It generally permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

As of 2026, the Schengen visa process has been updated with new digital border control measures to improve security and make travel more efficient. The Entry/Exit System (EES) is now fully operational across the Schengen Area, replacing traditional passport stamps with a digital system that records travelers’ entry and exit information, including biometric data such as fingerprints and facial images.

In addition, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is expected to begin operating later in 2026 for travellers from visa exempt countries. However, ETIAS does not apply to travelers who already require a Schengen visa, such as Indian passport holders. The European Union will announce the official launch date before applications open, and no action is required until then.
